The Way We Do Business
SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY POLICYAs the regional leader in Northwestern Ontario in the Engineering field, Nordmin has a responsibility to act as a good corporate citizen all around the world. We believe our reputation, together with the trust and confidence of those with whom we deal, to be one of our most valuable assets. In order to keep this reputation and trust, we strive to maintain the highest ethical standards in carrying out our business activities.
We believe in the three pillars of accountability: our employees, our community and our environment.
Our EmployeesIt is a cornerstone of our ethos that Nordmin is a meritocracy, where all employees are recognized and rewarded on the basis of their performance, effort, contribution and achievements.
The company's performance management and personal development processes are being utilized company-wide. They are based on the following principles:
That our employees have a clear understanding of how they contribute to the business and have clear professional objectives, aligned to the business strategy and objectives of the corporation
Career pathways that identify key capabilities and behaviors at different competency levels across core career paths
Personal development, training and succession planning to support personal growth
An annual review of performance that drives decisions about pay and career progression.
Our CommunityNordmin Engineering Ltd. is dedicated to the communities where we live and do business as well as our global community. At our home office in Thunder Bay, Ontario, we strive to be good corporate citizens both from a philanthropic point of view as well as a good neighbour.
Nordmin is actively involved in several fundraising initiatives, locally, nationally and internationally. Locally, our employees participate in a monthly giving program with the United Way of Thunder Bay. The company matches those donations and all the money raised stays within the community.
We are also involved with several larger initiatives, namely, the Bike Bike for Heart & Stroke fundraiser. Nordmin Engineering and our employees were crowned the top fundraising team in Thunder Bay for 2015 for the second straight year by raising over $10,700.
Our other corporate endeavour is the international fundraiser called Movember. Team Nordmin finished first in all of Canada in the Engineering Challenge by raising over $19,000 for men's health. The event ran the month of November and had our gentlemen clean shaven on day one and with very hairy moustaches by month's end. It was wholly supported by the ladies of Nordmin, as well.
Nordmin Engineering wins Engineering Challenge for Movember 2014!
Team Nordmin raised the most donations by an Engineering firm in Canada. Congratulations to all involved, and to the team captain Mika Vanhapelto for leading the charge!
Our EnvironmentThe company believes that, by their nature, our operations have a minimal impact on the environment. However, we acknowledge that there are inevitable environmental impacts associated with daily operations. We aim to minimize any harmful effects and consider the development and implementation of environmental standards to achieve this to be of great importance. As such, we strongly encourage the internationally established 3 R's:
Reduce, Re-use, Recycle
Reduce:raising awareness through targeted communications and actionable items to help our staff reduce energy use at work; improved powering down of our facilities overnight and on weekends; encouraging reduced business travel and use of conferencing technology, and upgrading our office equipment to more energy-efficient devices.
Re-use:Replacing, where possible, the reliance on disposable items with reusable items.
Recycle:Utilizing and encouraging our staff to take advantage of our recycling bins located at each and every one of our printing stations located throughout the office buildings.
Our commitment is to work to ensure that our operations will result in a cleaner environment and we intend to maintain the continual improvement at reducing our footprint on the planet.
