SENIOR ENGINEER (CIVIL/STRUCTURAL)
JOB SUMMARY
The Senior Civil/Structural Engineer is an experienced engineering professional who provides senior-level civil and structural engineering and technical leadership for mining, industrial and infrastructure projects. The Engineer leads and performs engineering activities for complex assignments and major scopes of work and assumes responsibility for the technical quality, completeness and delivery of civil/structural engineering within assigned projects.
Reporting to the Civil/Structural Team Lead, the Senior Civil/Structural Engineer establishes engineering approaches, design criteria and structural loading requirements and leads and performs the analysis and design of buildings, structural steel systems, reinforced concrete structures, foundations, equipment foundations and other structures associated with mining and industrial facilities. The Engineer applies professional engineering judgment in the interpretation and application of applicable codes, standards and regulatory requirements and in the development and review of engineering solutions.
Working with engineers, EITs, Civil/Structural Designers and multidisciplinary project teams, the Senior Civil/Structural Engineer provides technical direction, reviews engineering and design work, resolves complex technical and multidisciplinary issues, and ensures that engineering requirements are appropriately incorporated into coordinated and constructable project designs. The Senior Engineer is expected to contribute to the development of less experienced personnel through mentoring, coaching, technical instruction, review of work and the transfer of practical engineering knowledge and experience.
As experience and capability are demonstrated, Senior Civil/Structural Engineers assume increasing responsibility for the technical leadership of major and complex engineering scopes, development and mentorship of engineering and design personnel, coordination of engineering activities across project teams, and provision of senior technical guidance to clients, Project Managers and other project stakeholders.
The Senior Civil/Structural Engineer operates with a high degree of independence and accountability and exercises professional engineering judgment within their area of competence and professional responsibility.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead, perform and review civil and structural engineering analysis and design for mining, industrial and infrastructure projects, including buildings, structural steel systems, reinforced concrete structures, foundations, equipment foundations and other civil/structural systems.
- Establish engineering approaches, design criteria, structural loads and load combinations and ensure the appropriate application of building codes, structural design standards, regulations and jurisdiction-specific requirements.
- Lead and review structural analysis using S-FRAME or similar structural analysis software, including evaluation of analytical approaches, assumptions, models, results and engineering conclusions.
- Provide technical direction to engineers, EITs and Civil/Structural Designers, including review of engineering calculations, models, drawings, specifications and other engineering deliverables to ensure technical quality, completeness and constructability.
- Lead civil/structural engineering coordination within multidisciplinary project teams, including review of three-dimensional project models using Autodesk Revit and Navisworks and resolution of complex engineering, design and multidisciplinary issues.
- Lead the technical execution of assigned civil/structural engineering scopes, including planning engineering activities, assigning and reviewing work, coordinating technical resources and ensuring the quality and completeness of engineering deliverables.
- Mentor, coach and train EITs, Designers and less experienced engineers through technical instruction, review of work, explanation of engineering principles and design decisions, and sharing of practical project and engineering experience.
- Provide senior technical guidance and support to Project Managers, clients, vendors, contractors and other project stakeholders and contribute to the development and consistent application of Nordmin’s civil/structural engineering practices and standards.
- Prepare, review and approve engineering documents and, where authorized and within their area of professional responsibility, sign and seal engineering documents.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or a related engineering program from a recognized university.
- Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in the Province of Ontario, with eligibility for professional registration in other jurisdictions as required by project assignments.
- Significant civil/structural engineering experience in mining, industrial, infrastructure or other heavy industrial environments, including demonstrated experience leading complex engineering assignments and scopes.
- Extensive knowledge and experience in the analysis and design of buildings, structural steel, reinforced concrete, foundations and other industrial structures, including application of applicable codes, standards, regulatory requirements and structural loading criteria.
- Strong proficiency with S-FRAME or similar structural analysis software and the ability to navigate and review three-dimensional project models using Autodesk Revit and Navisworks.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and review engineering activities and to mentor, coach and develop EITs, Designers and less experienced engineers.
- Strong professional judgment, analytical and problem-solving skills, with demonstrated ability to resolve complex engineering issues and recognize when specialized technical expertise is required.
- Strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with clients and multidisciplinary project teams, work in both SI and Imperial units, and effectively use standard Microsoft applications.

SALARY RANGE
$134,590 TO $176,010 plus 8% Employer matched RRSP contributions.
HOURS OF WORK
Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm, reasonable schedule flexibility available.
LOCATION
Thunder Bay Office, with possible, occasional travel.
