Detailed Engineering
Mining is one of the pillars of Nordmin. Nordmin offers engineering services within multiple sectors of the mining industry. With professionals in disciplines including Mining, Structural and Civil, Mechanical, Process, Power, and Automation and Controls, every stage in the design of a mine is covered – top to bottom.
Nordmin has the ability to develop a fully realized process design for each step of the mining cycle, from dewatering to resource extraction, all the way to waste deposition.
At the surface level, the Nordmin Engineering team has experience designing hoist house, headframe, and surface infrastructure, conveyor galleries, long span complex trusses, and mining mill and concentrator facilities. Nordmin also has the expertise to design HVAC and electrical and controls systems for all of these components.
Nordmin is versed in the design and planning of systems such as water and wastewater treatment, effluent treatment, tailings impoundment, and waste deposition.
Nordmin has a portfolio that includes both Open Pit mining and Underground mining. The team has experience in collar, shaft lining, and underground structural support system design, as well as hoisting systems, process piping, and mine ventilation. Nordmin has expertise in material handling systems for surface and underground crushing, screening, conveying, and stockpiling and has also designed underground and surface mine water control, sump design, and separation.
Integrated Engineering
Nordmin completes all projects using an Integrated Engineering approach.
3D parametric models are created from initial concept through detailed design engineering and drafting. These models range from mineral deposits to processing plants, generation facilities to sub-stations, and are all integrated into a single overall project model.
This model is expanded and refined as a project progresses. Work-points are established, detailed designs completed, and conceptual plans are replaced and updated with detailed versions that become the basis of all 2D engineering drawings.
This allows for seamless transitions through the phases of concept, design, drafting, fabrication, construction, and management.
The project team is integrated into the design process by having all parties involved: Owner, Engineer, Constructor, and Vendors. Creating a team that collaborates through the entire process eliminates lost schedule time due to design or concept changes, minimizes costly construction changes, and ultimately enhances the end product for the Clients.
The 3D models are transferable, giving Nordmin the ability to provide them to fabricators. This leaves minimal room for errors and allows for exact reproductions in steel, pipe, cabling, and rebar.
Constructors can use the models to better plan their sequencing and schedule their work. Thanks to the databases, cost control and quantity estimates take minutes.
Operations can explore the models to provide valuable insight at the design phase, eliminating the potential for costly or troublesome issues at the commissioning phase. These models are also powerful tools in training and operating maintenance personnel.
